PROVIDER INITIATED TEST - The CA 15-3 test measures the level of cancer antigen 15-3, a protein that may be elevated in individuals with certain types of breast cancer. This test is most commonly used to monitor treatment response or detect recurrence in people with a known diagnosis of breast cancer, rather than for routine screening.
CA 15-3 levels can also be influenced by non-cancerous conditions and other cancers, so results are interpreted alongside clinical findings and additional tests. Serial measurements over time are often more useful than a single result.
