PROVIDER INITIATED TEST - The Sm/RNP Antibodies test measures antibodies directed against a complex of Smith (Sm) and ribonucleoprotein (RNP) antigens found in the cell nucleus. These antibodies are commonly associated with mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and may also be present in other autoimmune conditions such as lupus.
This test is typically ordered as part of an ANA component or autoimmune evaluation when symptoms such as joint pain, muscle weakness, Raynaud’s phenomenon, fatigue, or unexplained inflammation are present. Results are interpreted alongside other autoimmune markers and clinical findings to help support diagnosis and disease classification.
